10K and Half Marathon Training Program

Group Training - Trail running


The Brooksie Way 10K and Half Marathon Training Program is for those who have never participated in a race before and for those who are looking to improve their time goals. This program will prepare you to run or walk the Brooksie Way Half Marathon or 10K on September 23, 2018. All training groups meet weekly in Rochester on Thursday nights at 6:30 PM.

The program is 18 weeks and begins with a Placement Expo on May 24. Come prepared to comfortably run or walk a mile to place you in the proper group. The official Kickoff and your first group run will be on May 31.

At the group workouts, no matter what distance you are training for, most running and walking will be done using a run/walk/run or walk/shuffle/walk interval method. We do have a non-interval half marathon group. We also request that you run or walk 2 other days of the week. The combination of the group workout and homework will ensure your success on race day. This program is for adults (ages 14 and up with an adult). No strollers, pets, or listening devices are allowed at group workouts.
 

10K Interval run and walk groups range from completing the race in 1 hour to 2 hours.  These groups will meet every week and increase their mileage and endurance.  Group workouts will begin with 2 miles and increase to a maximum of 8 miles.
 
Half Marathon interval run and walk groups range from completing the race in 2 ¼ hours to 4 hours. These groups will meet every week and increase their mileage and endurance. No experience needed.
 
Half Marathon non-interval run groups will train to complete the race in less than 2 hours, which is under a 9:00 minute per mile pace and will not be using intervals. This group may also go to the track, do speed work or hill training. Participants should be able to run at least 4 miles during the first night of training.

 
The registration fee is $110 per person or $90 per person with two or more registered together in a team.

The Brooksie Way Couch to 5k


Beginning Thursday, March 22, 2018, this nine-week running program uses a run/walk/run interval training method with the goal to finish the race. Interval training is used for the entire process; we won’t push you to run without walking, even during the race. There is also a walking program which uses intervals.

This program is for beginners and those who need additional motivation. You will meet once a week on Thursdays in Rochester at 6:30 PM for a group workout, then run or walk two other times a week on your own.

After the training, you will have the opportunity to participate in two local 5K races. The cost for both races are included in your training registration. This program is for ages 18 and older, however, children 14 and older may participate with an accompanying adult.”
